A new project for the Norwood Sa. Base Genève is an eight-floors building designed to offer its guests an optimal and smart stay. It consists of 36 suites, 17 fully equipped apartments, spacious and functional common areas that include numerous co-working spaces. Once again, under the direction of Norwood Sa, we were responsible for designing and producing the custom furniture and elements for this project.

Key points
Engineering
We started from the designs and standards defined by the Group to explore and develop each piece of furniture in detail. This phase also included the final selection of finishes and production methods, an analysis of the intended use and maintenance of each item, and a careful assessment of logistics and installation processes.
Prototyping
To ensure alignment with the “Base” concept—and therefore guarantee material quality and design solutions that also translate into long-term durability—we were asked to build a mock-up room at the Group’s headquarters. Although the project shared similarities with the Vevey development, this phase was essential to validate the design choices and gain a tangible overview of the final result. For us, this step is always crucial, as it allows us to test a number of seemingly invisible yet impactful aspects, such as assembly methods, which ultimately improve both the process and overall timelines.
CONCEPT
Designed with respect to sustainability, Norwood Sa developed a project that pursues efficiency both in terms of design and in energy performance. Advanced ecological solutions were implemented to meet strict energy standards and obtain HPE certification. The innovative and eco-conscious “Base” concept is centered around the creation of intelligent, sustainable, technological, and comfortable aparthotels. This philosophy is reflected in the careful selection of materials, which are required to meet high standards of quality, sustainability, and long-term durability, as well as in the overall development of each project element. Every component must be conceived as “smart technology,” designed to provide guests with a smart, social, and fully autonomous experience. It was based on these principles and guidelines that we developed and produced the custom furniture and elements for the rooms and public areas of Base Genève. We realized a mock-up room to review and refine design choices, finishes, materials, and fabrics together with the client, before moving on to the full development of the rooms and public areas. For the latter, the client chose to elevate the Geneva project by allocating more space and visibility to these areas. While the public areas in the Vevey property were compact and essential—though still smart and functional—in Base Genève we were commissioned to develop a full concept for these spaces. The areas dedicated to coworking and social interaction were also significantly expanded, both in size and functionality.
The architects: Norwood
Norwood is a family business specializing in real estate development. Development of plots, project design, construction, advice in order to imagine the solution that best meets the habitat project and personal and financial objectives. Today, under the leadership of Fédéric Mydske, the company has developed the eco-responsable and innovative concept of “Base” for apart-hotels, inaugurated in Nylon in 2015 and in Vevey in 2008.

Same customer, same mood
We collaborated with the Norwood Sa Group in 2017 for the Base Vevey project. Each “Base” aparthotel is founded on the same core principles: intelligence, technology, sustainability, and comfort. Some aesthetic and technical choices—as well as materials —were revisited in the development of Base Genève. Ensuring continuity in the use of materials, finishes, fabrics, accessories, and overall style between the two projects, years apart, was no easy task. It required harmonious relations, meticulous organization, and close collaboration with our supplier network.
